And the Goat Bleats again: a Rider to Ideke Erred on Radio, So What? Let’s Hear from Gburugburu

By Eze Nwamadi, Ogbonna Asadu and Ezema Igwenunu

When we reflect on the activities of Okey Ezea(Ideke) and the way he goes about his electioneering campaign, bleating about the place like a goat that he is, chewing its cud, and throwing tantrums, we shudder at the level of deterioration to which Ezea has slipped. Ideke obviously is a man living in past glory. That is quite a pity, but his managers, if he has any, should have tied a loincloth of decency around his stark naked and weak waist.

Okey Ezea had taken everyone by surprise when at Obimo in the name of campaign threw caution to the wind and began to impugn the person of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi with downright name-calling and throwing of diatribes. It was a case of clear slander meant to defame the person of His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. It was an actionable offense which Governor Ugwuanyi in his conciliatory disposition and large heart allowed to slide. Any other governor would teach Ideke a lesson in defamation, but not Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who wears the toga of power with peace, modesty and restraint. This however seems to have sharpened the jaded proboscises of some disgruntled and jobless Enugu critics who now fly off the handle in needless excoriation of the performing governor whose scorecard in the face of economic depression is superlative.

Okey Ezea mistook Ugwuanyi’s ambience of peace and silence over his vituperation for perhaps a sign he could continue his diatribes with impunity. The fact, however, is that Ugwuanyi had ignored Ezea because he understands Okey is a man under affliction and frustration who has lost it all and deteriorated physically and mentally. His frustrations have spurred him to belligerence and transfer of aggression, and he acts it out with air of mental imbalance as evidenced in his radio interview where he goofed, muttering incoherent terms as would a demented patient.

How would anyone contemplate an Okey Ezea in senatorial terms? The senate is not a dumping ground for failed and frustrated old hags, seeking rehabilitation. Old people’s home is a better destination for such a doddering weather-beaten, spent and senile old man. The senate is rather the legislative citadels peopled by experienced statesmen whose wise decisions serve as a guide and checks to executive powers. Someone like Okey Ezea with no pedigree in leadership and management of business should not in anyway contemplate running for the senate, except that these days of Enugu Labour Party rascality, everybody has become a candidate.

Okey Ezea had contested for governorship up to five times and five times he failed. He had moved from one party to the other and that has not in any way helped his rejection at the polls. Ezea is seeking rehabilitation through politics, having run down his Ideke Shipping firm( If a shipping firm it was). Okey Ezea is bankrupt and in a sane clime, he has no business seeking to represent a people in the hallowed red chambers of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The good news is that the people of Enugu North Senatorial Zone are no fools. They cannot pander to the weak political link Ideke embodies.Governor Ugwuanyi offers the people the needed credible representation at the senate. Ugwuanyi was in the national assembly for 12 years before he became the governor of Enugu State. He is filled from the crown of his head to the feet with legislative and executive experiences and has the finesse to navigate through the divides while the task of the leadership of the national assembly is thrust on him. How would Enugu North Senatorial District have a candidate of Ugwuanyi’s high dimension and then deign to the lowly low in which Okey Ezea shrivels? Shall Enugu North Senatorial Zone afford to scald its fingers when it has the roasting rod? Enugu North Senatorial Zone cannot afford the miasma of an Ideke and foist such a dinosaur on its back in the name of representation.

In his recent clownish outing in the name of writing his lackluster essay, Ideke let loose a childish one, as he boasts about his law degrees and goes the way of Chijioke Edeoga’s manner of name-dropping and desperate search for validation. One wonders why “a whole” Ideke should reply to those he called Ugwuanyi’s media goons when his media handlers( if he has any) should have done that. Or he could have asked his partner in clownish politics, Chijioke Edeoga, to lend him from his coterie of derelict minions the Aniebolam Nwamus and the Ikem Okuhus with whom he does the beast with the back in the name of journalism, since Ideke is bankrupt and cannot afford the services of a media aide. The fact is that if not for Labour Party in Enugu State that has made the blind, dumb and lame candidates, where on earth would an Okey Eze in the name of Ideke match with Governor Ugwuanyi? If not for Ugwuanyi’s accommodating spirit and humility, Okey Ezea would have been in jail by now for his criminal indiscretion. February, 2023 is drawing nearer, and it shall soon be over for Okey Ezea to swallow his vomit and file his rambunctious tongue in its sullied scabbards, and move into old people’s home for proper rehabilitation.
