News Break: Everest Nnaji emerges LP guber candidate, withdraws suit as Edeoga picks senatorial ticket
By Gloria Onuh
Barely 24 hours before the presidential and national assembly elections, the embattled guber candidate of the Labour Party in Enugu State, Chief Chijioke Edeoga, also known as Okaome has stepped down for Capt. Everest Nnaji (Odengene) and picked the Enugu East senatorial ticket.
The development came after Oyibo Chukwu, the senatorial candidate of the party was assassinated on Wednesday night in Enugu which made the national office of the Labour Party send delegates to intervene in the crisis rocking the party in Enugu state.
In a meeting which was chaired yesterday in Enugu by the Labour Party Secretary General, Clement Ojukwu, it was concluded that Chijioke Edeoga’s name be submitted to INEC as the consensus senatorial candidate in Enugu East, while Everest Nnaji shall then be enlisted as the guber candidate of the party in Enugu State.
Expressing his happiness, Capt.Nnaji assured the party that the victory which is already in the offing is a victory for all and not for anyone specifically.
”I appreciate my brother and friend Chief Chiujioke Edeoga and other party members for giving me this opportunity to act. I am not better than anyone, and I must say that this victory is a victory for all of us. I have instructed my lawyers to withdraw the matter immediately. I shall not fail the party and I am rest assured that we are going to triumph in these elections,” Nnaji said.
Meanwhile, Edeoga equally commended the party for enthroning peace in the state and assured that his team henceforth shall be the team for Everest Nnaji as all hands need to be on deck in order that victory will be achieved.
Recall that Everest NNaji has approached the Supreme Court challenging the decision made by the Appeal Court which reinstated Edeoga as the guber candidate of the Labour Party in Enugu state after the Federal High Court had sacked him (Chijioke Edeoga) and ordered that a fresh election be conducted.
