Enugu guber: Peter Obi was nobody when I became Chief Press Secretary in 1991 – Edeoga, Labour Party candidate (Video)

The governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Enugu State, Barr. Chijioke Edeoga, has said he would still win election on Saturday without the support and recognition of Mr. Peter Obi, Labour Party presidential candidate, saying Peter Obi was nobody when he was first appointed as Chief Press Secretary in 1991 by the former governor of the state, Dr.
Okwesilize Nwodo. Barr. Edeoga said this at different fora while responding to questions whether Peter Obi’s popularity had boosted his support base in the state.
Edeoga, in an apparent self-adulation, said he had been winning elections even when Peter Obi had never dreamt of making it to politics.
He noted that he was able to deliver his in-law, Dr. Joe Nwodo in 1990, even though his brother (Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo) later became the governor.
Fact checks on the trending videos where Edeoga made the claims showed that the videos were genuine.
Edeoga recalled that he was elected as a Local Government Chairman in 1997 when Peter Obi was still nobody, and probably still trading in Onitsha.
“I have been in public service long before Peter Obi made his public entrance. So, without his support or that of the Obidients Movement, I can win based on my own popularity.
“I have been in public service and I have won elections and I have done well in politics, if I may say so, long before he (Peter Obi) became a prominent figure.
“By 1997, I had won election as Chairman. Before then, I had aligned by intellect and my abilities to the realization of the governorship election of Dr Joe Nwodo. It didn’t happen but his brother became Governor. That exercise happened substantially because I was part of it,” he noted.
Recall that Peter Obi has been deliberately avoiding the endorsement of Edeoga’s candidacy based on his visible incompetence and failure as politician of over 30 years in offices. Peter Obi had earlier told Enugu Obidients to vote only candidates with competence, capacity, character, compassion, track records and outstanding credibility who are not career politicians.
