Enugu State

TIME FOR THIS RETROGRESSIVE CUP TO PASS OVER: THE EVILS OF SIT-AT-HOME IN FOCUS

There cannot be a comparative analysis of the early take-off of the new governments in states in the south East of Nigeria without the inference of sit-at-home and its negative effects.

For instance, the Governor of Abia State inherited Umuahia as a free capital. The emphasis therefore is that there is no sit-at-home in Umuhia the hometown and capital City of the IPOB leader and Abakiliki the capital city of the factional IPOB leader. Why should we have sit-at-home in Enugu the capital city of Enugu State?

The evil trend of sitting at home in Enugu, especially in Enugu the capital city is a serious setback to businesses and services especially the lawyer’s courtroom practice in Enugu.

Worthy of note is the verifiable regressive facts that businesses open, schools open and run normal academic calendar, and above all courts sit in Umuahia, Awka, Owerre, and Abakaliki thereby making Enugu a sole victim of Monday sit-at-home and giving the lawyers in the four other states the advantages of consistent progress in practice, knowledge advancement and having judgments over and above lawyers in Enugu.

The negative effects of sit-at-home, the liberal tolerance, and acquiescence of the descent on the reduced number of school days, work hours, overall defect on the education of our younger ones, the negative impression on our growing population that Mondays are nonworking days and the degrading effects on our growth as lawyers in the short and long run will be humongous and regrettable unless we rise to the challenges and recover the fast dwindling economic prowess of Igbo man through everyday commercial activities of which Monday’s as the first working days in each week are the most important.

To this end, as lawyers and opinion molders our positive opinion and actions at all times and in all places against threats to our lives, our movements, our businesses, and free society through Monday sit at home illegal and our determination in support of the fight for good over evil, liberation and prevalence of legitimacy over illegitimacy are urgently imperative. We must therefore rise to these challenges now.

Further thereto, by the social contract in section 14 B of the 1999 constitution which is of the firm view that the primary role of government is the protection of lives and welfare of the citizens the Governor of Enugu State, the Lion in the Lion building, HE Barr Peter Mbah in his apparent understanding of the intricacies and urgent need for Enugu to be liberated or at least stand on equal footings with other state capitals in South East in his proactive mindset of removing obstacles to the fulfillment of charter of demands by the people and in keeping with his campaign promises of good service delivery has given priority to sorting agitations of separatist ideologies and visited President Tinibu to further demand the release of the leader of IPOB but not that his release is collateral or condition for the end of sit-at-home in Enugu and the total liberation of Enugu State.

With our collective efforts, Enugu and its capital will be free like other capitals in the four other state capitals in the South East States of Nigeria.

With God all good things are possible.
