Just In: Ezugwu wins Uzo-Uwani Council Primary

A lawyer, Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu has emerged the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the October 5, 2024 chairmanship election in Uzo-Uwani local government area.

Ezugwu who hails from Amidi, Ajona Nkpologu in Adada Development Center of the council was announced the winner of the election on Wednesday at Umulokpa, the council headquarters by Mr. Casmir Ademu, the returning officer of the party after scoring 48 out of the 48 votes cast.

Thanking the delegates and other members of the party for their overwhelming support and solidarity, Ezugwu thanked the electoral committee from his party and other officials from the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, ENSIEC for a hitch-free and transparent conduct of the exercise.

He assured the party faithfuls that his administration will uphold the virtues which they are known for, promising to change the narrative about the council through quality governance.

Ezugwu further thanked the Enugu State governor, Peter Mbah for the good works he is doing and for providing the enabling environment to ensure peaceful Primaries round the state, stressing that his administration shall eradicate insecurity in the council through employing a sustainable mechanism.

“Today, I promise that Uzo-Uwani shall be a danger zone for kidnappers, armed robbers and other criminal elements operating in the entire Uzo-Uwani. I equally want to assure our women that they should get ready to go back to the farm because the era of destroying their crops, raping and kidnapping of our people will soon be a thing of the past.

“I equally want to appeal that all aspirants and stakeholders of our party and the entire people of Uzo-Uwani to join hands with me to make an unforgettable impact in our only local government. Together, we shall achieve our desired results,” Ezugwu said.

Okey Okolo, the ENSIEC returning officer described the process as a peaceful primary, stressing that the entire delegates voted for Barr. Ezugwu Chijioke.

“I must confess that this is a peaceful, transparent and calm electioneerjng process. It goes a long way to show that the PDP family in the council are strongly with him. It is well organized,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the party in the council, Hon. Jude Okonkwo thanked the electoral committee, ENSIEC officials, party members, delegates and stakeholders of the party for making it to the event, describing the process as peaceful.
